Our beloved North Star Family,

Yesterday The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced changes to the Policies and Procedures Handbook 1 regarding same-sex marriage and children of parents living in a same-gender relationship. We reaffirm our belief that the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles are prophets, seers, and revelators who receive guidance on how to administer God’s kingdom here on earth.

We also recognize that this announcement may cause great confusion and even pain as each of us strives to reconcile these guidelines with our faith and our sexuality or gender identity. While participating in conversations about this topic let us strive to be positive, sincere, empathetic, and uplifting. This is a perfectly opportunity for each of us to exercise our covenantal responsibility “to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in” (Mosiah 18:9).

One of the primary tenants of our faith is our ability to seek direct revelation, counsel, comfort, and healing from a loving Father in Heaven. The Savior has said,

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7: 7).

As a community, let us come together in a spirit of prayer, fasting, and worship as we seek to understand the will of the Lord. He will guide those who come unto Him. We encourage all members of the community to participate in our quarterly Fast and Temple Weekend that will take place November 21-22. Please join us in fasting for all the same-sex attracted and LGBT-identified individuals and their families that you know, and put their names on the temple prayer rolls for an extra portion of spiritual outpouring and comfort. Let us unite our faith in a spirit of fasting and temple worship so that the Lord may pour our a blessing of peace and understanding upon the North Star community, the LGBT community, and the Latter-day Saint at large.

With love,

The Board of Directors & Executive Committee
North Star International

I am a member who has gotten a lot of grief and attacks from ex mormons on this policy on Facebook and while I defend the church I have been at a loss for ideas about positive things I could do. I’m glad I ran across this post and I will join you all in fasting on the 21st.
