I think the government is going to get out of the marriage business altogether by offering civil unions to both gays and straights. This will allow any couple who wishes to be “married” to do so in their own preferred way (church, synagogue, druid forest). Every couple will obtain a civil union certificate first (or second) from the local courthouse which registers the union (like a birth certificate) and then people can do what they wish about the rest of it just as they do now with baptisms, christenings and the like. Its the only practical solution to the separation of church and state. I look forward to it.
