When reality TV exploded onto the screens back in 2000 with the first survivor, I was hooked. Admittedly, I stumbled upon the first episode of the season by accident, thinking that it was a documentary about scientists in the South Pacific, and I wanted to know why these researchers were more interested in talking smack about each other instead of doing their work. And even after I realized that it was American reboot of the European castaway reality show, I still watched every episode until the end of the season — every backstabbing, conniving episode. What’s that they say about slowing down to stare at car accidents?

A little over an hour ago, our dog Cindy, a beautiful black lab, started barking like something was wrong. We got out of bed and checked the whole house. She’s not prone to false alarms, so something definitely spooked her. I’m up, not out of fear, but because I have the unfortunate propensity that once I am awakened in the middle of the night, it is hard for me to go back to bed. So, since I’m out of bed, I thought I’d write something here about what has been on my mind a lot lately.
